In early April Mike and I headed south to Guatemala again, so lucky are we. We flew from PDX with an overnight in Dallas. The flights went well and we were treated to a beautiful cloud show before landing in Guatemala City.

We arrived late in the day as we usually do and landed at our favorite hotel in Antigua, Casa Cristina, lovely from the friendly staff to the cute, spotless rooms, to the terrace with views of colonial churches, volcanoes, and the rooftops of the town.

We often just stay 1 night which allows time for an early morning walk about, a visit to a place we love or haven't seen, and a nice breakfast before heading to Lake Atitlán. This time we stayed 2 nights; I think these photos document time well spent.

Breakfast at Doña Luisa Xincotencatl - house made yogurt and granola with fruit and honey

Lunch at La Casa de Sopa - spicy caldo tlalpeño and my favorite, pepián.

Semana Santa preparations near La Merced

Dinner at Epicure - Green apple and cucumber salad - with basil, mint, Asian aromatics, and peanuts - and vegetarian risotto with mushrooms, roasted corn, asparagus, butter, and parmesan.

After our final meal - comida tipica and chocolate/fruit crepes at Fernando's - and a quick stop at a pet shop to purchase goldfish, we headed to the lake and our beloved home there, Ti Wachooch. ¡Gracias, Antigua!

There's a complete set of photos from this part of our trip HERE.
