We had a nice breakfast at Flight Cafe across from the airport, went over our shopping list for the week, shopped at a produce stand, a grocery store, and a bakery, and hopped on the boat bound for Tranquility Bay Resort, secluded on the north end of Ambergris Caye.
We had booked the lovely, comfortable 'Budget Travelers Suite' which trades the straight on view of the beach for half the cost of the other cabins.
Mike spent most of the daylight hours fishing for bonefish and casting to the occasional permit.
He also tried valiantly to entice the 4-5' long tarpon that frequented the dock every evening into biting, but no luck there this visit.
I split my daylight hours between reading, bird (and other critter) watching, and snorkeling.
And eating. :-)
There's grilled lobster in that wrap.
On the boat trip back to San Pedro Town we saw some dolphins.
We took the Belize Express water taxi to Caye Caulker and headed to our favorite spot there, Colinda Cabanas.
We enjoyed walking and riding our bikes around town, enjoying sunsets, good food, and fish spotting.
My pot of gold. :-)
You can see why they've closed the airstrip until repairs are made.
Plus dessert from the Banana Bread Lady.
We chose Mario's Tours for a snorkeling trip to the Caye Caulker Marine Reserve.
We also stopped on the back side to spot sea horses and feed the tarpon.
The pelicans were hopeful but the tarpon got the fish.
I went out diving 2 days, 2 tanks each day, with Belize Diving Services.
At the end of the last dive, 3 sharks and a big Nassau grouper trying to dig out a lion fish - cool!
After 5 nights on Caye Caulker we crossed back to Ambergris Caye and met Jeff from Cayo Frances for our boat trip to the fly fishing camp on the back side of the island.
Such an eclectic book shelf!
The food was delicious.
Cayo Frances has stand up paddle boards and kayaks set up for flyfishing. Mike went out 3 days to fish the beautiful flats for bonefish. He caught quite a few, but they were mostly small compared to the bonefish at Tranquility Bay and on Caye Caulker.
The camp is built on an ancient Maya site and there are pottery bits all over. I enjoyed exploring and spent lots of time reading while Mike fished.

For our last night we headed back to San Pedro Town to be close to the airport for an early morning flight. We met forum friends Jean and Bruce for dinner and slept our last night at Ruby's - a nice budget place right on the beach.
The next morning we flew SPR > BZE > LAX > PDX - home again home again jiggity jig.
HAPPY TRAILS!
